Truck Scales

WB-X600 V-Beam Bridge Type Truck Scale

WB-X600 is a modular, surface-mounted truck scale whose load-bearing members are steel plate profiles folded into a V shape. Its full steel platform is configured in lengths from 6 to 22 m and capacities from 40 to 100 t. As the upper-mid, professional option of the WB-X family, it is meant for haulage, cargo and industrial sites that need quick installation, a light platform and the option to move the scale when required.

V-beam: load-bearing members from folded plate

In conventional scales the platform is carried by rolled I-sections. In WB-X600 each load-bearing member is a steel plate bent on a press brake until it takes a V section. These V profiles are lined up side by side beneath the platform’s top plate and joined to it with a continuous weld along the whole line of contact. As a result, the top plate and beams act not as separate pieces but as a single box section.

A continuous weld matters for service life as well as strength. With stitch welding, the narrow slits left between plate and beam trap water and dirt, and corrosion often starts at these hidden spots. A seam closed from end to end removes those pockets and makes it easier to clean beneath the platform and keep the paint intact.

The thickness of the top plate is selected according to capacity and averages around 10 mm. A heavy-capacity configuration gets a stronger deck plate, a lighter one a deck that is no heavier than necessary. This keeps platform weight in line with the job and balances transport and assembly costs.

Modular construction and installation

The platform reaches the site as factory-made modules, which are joined together at the scale’s final position. WB-X600 is the easiest model in the range to assemble. As there is no heavy concrete deck to carry and no need to send a long platform out on the road in one piece, transport is simpler and the assembly crew can work with smaller lifting equipment.

The scale is installed above ground, and vehicles reach the platform over concrete ramps built on site. A flat base with adequate bearing capacity is prepared for the platform and ramps. With no pit to dig, construction time is shorter, and as the underside stays open, the load cells are easy to reach.

The real gain of modular construction appears when relocating. The scale can be separated into its modules and reassembled at another site. For businesses on leased land, contractors working on fixed-term projects or manufacturers planning to change their plant layout within a few years, this lets the scale be treated as movable equipment rather than a fixed investment. At the new site, it is enough to prepare the base and ramps again and repeat the calibration.

Reading the size and capacity range

WB-X600 offers one of the widest size ranges in the series. Width is 3 m; length is chosen from 6 m up to 22 m in 2 m steps. The number of cells and the capacity options change with length:

  • 6 m: 4 load cells, 40 t; for short trucks and tight sites
  • 8, 10 and 12 m: 4 cells at 8 m, 6 at 10 and 12 m; 40, 50 or 60 t
  • 14 m: 6 cells; 60 or 80 t
  • 16 and 18 m: 8 cells; 60, 80 or 100 t
  • 20 and 22 m: 10 cells; 60, 80 or 100 t

There is a logic to this table: long, heavy combinations do not fit on short platforms, so capacity stays low there; as the platform gets longer, total vehicle weight rises and so do the capacity options. A ready-mix plant weighing rigid trucks may stay at 10–12 m and 50–60 t. A logistics depot receiving articulated lorries will look at 16 or 18 m, and a site taking overloaded mining trucks at the 100 t option.

The scale interval lies between 20 and 50 kg and is used together with the indicator’s dual-range weighing. For example, on an 18 m, 80 t scale a loaded lorry is weighed in 50 kg steps, while the tare of an empty tractor unit is read in finer steps.

Measuring chain and weighbridge software

The platform rests on compression cells, each carrying a nominal load of 30 t. The cells have stainless steel bodies, IP68 protection and are built to accuracy class OIML R60 C4. Standard mounting kits limit horizontal displacement of the platform, so the push from vehicles entering at an angle or slowing on the deck does not show up in the measurement.

Signal processing is handled by a weighing indicator built around a 24-bit sigma-delta converter, giving 1/30000 conversion resolution. An anti-vibration filtering algorithm speeds up stable weighing, and the 26 mm backlit LCD digits can be read from a distance. Dual-range weighing allows light loads to be weighed in finer steps in legal-for-trade use.

The weighbridge software is designed to be easy to use at a PC. Weighing records are held in a robust database, and reports can be produced as XML, PDF, HTML, TXT and spreadsheet files. With the optional web-based database the scale can be monitored remotely, and traffic lights and a plate recognition system can be added to automate the weighing flow.

When does WB-X600 stand out?

Within the series, WB-X600 sits between the standard concrete-deck models and the premium I-beam models. It is much lighter than the concrete WB-X400F and offers longer platforms and capacities up to 100 t. The I-beam WB-X800F, by contrast, uses a more classic and more massive load-bearing layout for continuous, heaviest-duty service. WB-X600 is a balanced choice for businesses with regular heavy vehicle traffic that value installation speed and future portability but do not need a top-segment structure. On sites constantly crossed by tracked machines or exposed to heavy impact, a comparison with the concrete or I-beam options is advisable.

Key features

Folded V-beams

Press-brake V profiles act with the top plate as a single box section and carry the load down to the load cells.

Continuous weld seam

The beams are welded to the top plate end to end; no slits are left to trap water and dirt, reducing corrosion risk.

Deck plate matched to capacity

Top plate thickness is set by capacity and averages around 10 mm.

Easiest assembly in the range

Modules are joined on site; the scale can later be dismantled and rebuilt at another location.

6–22 m, 40–100 t

Nine lengths with length-dependent capacity options cover everything from short trucks to long combinations.

IP68 cells and recorded weighing

Stainless C4-class cells; reporting software, optional web database, light control and plate recognition integration.

Frequently asked questions

How does a V-beam scale differ from an I-beam scale?

In an I-beam scale the platform is carried by rolled steel I-sections. In the V-beam WB-X600, the members are produced by folding plate into a V and are joined to the top plate by a continuous weld. The V-beam gives a lighter, modular platform; the I-beam offers a more massive structure for the heaviest, continuous duty.

Does WB-X600 have to be fully dismantled to move it?

The platform is moved by separating it into its modules. At the new site the modules are joined again, the ramps and base are prepared, and the scale is then recalibrated. The concrete ramps at the old site stay where they are.

With which platform lengths can 100 t capacity be chosen?

The 100 t option is available on 16, 18, 20 and 22 m platforms. Shorter platforms stay in the 40–80 t range, because a vehicle combination approaching 100 t generally does not fit on a short platform.

What decides the thickness of the top plate?

The capacity of the scale. The average is around 10 mm, and heavy-capacity configurations get a stronger deck plate. This prevents local denting under the wheels without making the platform needlessly heavy.

Do the ramps come with the scale?

On WB-X600, vehicles climb onto the platform over concrete ramps, which are built on site. Ramp dimensions are set in the installation design according to platform height and the vehicle types on site.

Can WB-X600 be used on heavy sites such as mines?

With capacity options up to 100 t it can weigh heavy trucks. On sites constantly crossed by tracked machines, or where hard impacts are routine, however, the load concentrates on a small area of the deck. In such conditions a comparison with the I-beam WB-X800F or the concrete-deck WB-X400F is recommended.
